Jessica Xu

Hi, I'm Jess. I have been living in London for five years, and lived in a lot of places before that — Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Brighton and Shrewsbury.

I studied graphic design as an undergraduate and I am now finishing my masters thesis at UCL, on NLP and sentiment analysis. I got interested after coming across models using the transformer architecture in 2022, and it made me wonder what the future looked like for designers once we integrate it into our workflow. It was a pretty big pivot from art to machine learning, but there are many parallels. The semantic vector is a beautiful concept, and it solidifies a lot of design fundamentals. Currently interested in sentiment analysis and online behavioural modelling, mostly in Python and R.
